Russia wins Channel 1 Cup, Belarus beats imports to second place
The final day of international action in St. Petersburg saw Russia 25 make it three from three with victory over Kazakhstan. That secured the trophy for the tournament host, while condemning the winless Kazakhs to last place. Then Belarus thrashed the KHL World Team 6-1, securing second place in the four-team competition.
Russia wins 3x3 tournament
For the first time at the Channel 1 Cup, fans got to see 3x3 hockey. The four teams played a knock-out tournament, whetting the appetite for the start of the KHL 3x3 championship next week. Russia 25 and Belarus progressed to the final, with the host nation taking a 4-2 verdict in that gold medal game. Kazakhstan defeated the KHL World Team in the battle for bronze.
KHL World Team makes international debut
Thursday saw the start of the 2024 Channel 1 Cup. The four-team international tournament at the SKA Arena in St. Petersburg featured a KHL World Team for the first time. The roster, coached by Mike Keenan and comprising 28 top imports, faced a Russian national team in its opening game and fell to a 1-4 loss. Earlier, Belarus defeated Kazakhstan 3-1.

Russia 25 wrapped up a successful Channel 1 Cup with victory over Kazakhstan. The Red Machine’s prospects – average age 25 – defeated all-comers in St. Petersburg to win the trophy. Earlier in the day, VHL Stars got its first win of the competition, edging Belarus in OT.
Belarus edges Russia in shoot-out, wins Channel 1 Cup
Belarus won the 2022 Channel 1 Cup, defeating Russia in a shoot-out after an entertaining decisive game in Moscow on Sunday. Dinamo Minsk goalie Alexei Kolosov stopped all five Russian attempts in the shoot-out, while Shane Prince was the only player to convert his attempt.
77 KHL players to skate at the 2021 Channel One Cup
The Euro Hockey Tour returns as the top four European teams line up in Russia to compete for the Channel One Cup — the Russian phase of the European trophy. In Finland, the Swedish got the crown, while this time around Canada joins the tournament. In total, 77 players from 22 KHL sides will skate in Russia for their respective national teams.
KHL players help national teams in Karjala Cup
Over the weekend, KHL players had a central role in the Euro Hockey Tour first stage in Finland. The Swedish got the crown, while Vityaz’s Miro Aaltonen ended up on top of the scoring race. The Russian sensation Matvei Michkov scored a lacrosse-style goal and had three points in the tournament.
Michkov on target again as Russia finishes strongly
Russia wrapped up its Karjala Cup campaign with a convincing victory over the Czechs, securing third place in the opening round of Euro Hockey Tour action. Captain Dmitry Voronkov led the way with three points and Matvei Michkov was on the scoresheet again as a youthful Russian roster bounced back after dropping its first two games in Finland.

Matvei Michkov produced a spectacular lacrosse style goal to become Russia’s youngest ever international scorer, but the 16-year-old could not save the Red Machine from a second successive loss in Helsinki. After going down 0-3 to host nation Finland in its opening game at the Karjala Cup, a youthful roster suffered another reverse against the Tre Kronor.
38 KHL players to skate at the 2021 Karjala Cup
The Euro Hockey Tour returns as the top four European teams line up in Finland to compete for the Karjala Cup — the Finnish phase of the European trophy. Just as last year, the Russians will bring to Helsinki a younger team, with the U20 national team’s head coach behind the bench. In total, 38 players from 14 teams will skate in Finland for their respective national teams.
Finns end Russia’s winning streak
Russia suffered its first defeat in this season’s Euro Hockey Tour, producing a stuttering performance on defense in a disappointing loss against Finland. Goals from Dinamo Riga-bound Jere Karjalainen and Jokerit newbie Teemu Turunen led the way, while Metallurg’s Juho Olkinuora backstopped the Leijonat to victory.

Team Russia remains undefeated in this season’s Euro Hockey Tour after kicking off the final stage in Prague with victory over Sweden. That makes it 10 wins from 10 games in the competition so far. SKA forwards Anton Burdasov and Vladislav Kamenev led the scoring with two goals apiece as Valery Bragin’s team enjoyed an encouraging win barely a week before the start of the 2021 World Championship in Riga.

The Red Machine’s march continues relentlessly as Team Russia won all three games at the Euro Hockey Tour’s Sweden stage — it’s the ninth straight win for the Russians, who had Igor Larionov commanding the operations from the bench for the second time this season. Team Sweden claimed second place on home soil, while Finland and the Czech Republic closed the standings with two points each.

Russia secured top spot at the Beijer Hockey Games as teenage sensation Nikita Chibrikov potted his first international goal in a big win over the Czech Republic. The Red Machine remains undefeated in Euro Hockey Tour action this season, and finished first in Malmo.

Russia earned its eighth consecutive victory of the Euro Hockey Tour, a feat all the more remarkable for the wide range of players called upon by the national team this season. Saturday’s victory over Sweden in Malmo was perhaps the toughest yet, with the Red Machine inching over the line in a shoot-out after absorbing intense pressure in a 1-1 tie.
Mikhailis shoots down Russia ‘B’
Two goals from Nikita Mikhailis gave Kazakhstan the verdict in this game — and lifted the Steppe Eagles to victory in the three-team Kazakhstan Open. Both teams warmed up for today’s showdown with wins over Belarus, making this a gold-medal showdown within the mini-tournament.
