Finland won the historical gold medals in the Olympic thriller
The Olympic tournament had come to the moment in which only two teams were left to compete. Finland and the team ROC faced each other in the final game on Sunday morning. The Finnish Lions made their way through to the climax by winning Slovakia in the semi-final. Slovakia later defeated Sweden in the bronze medal game.
Finland battled the way through to the final
Finland could’ve been concidered a slight favorite to win the semi-final against Slovakia due to the tournament opening game, in which the Lions beated Slovak’s by 6–2 score. On Friday morning the game was about the sport for the Olympic final and the margins became narrower.

As the men’s Olympic ice hockey tournament is having its first games being played, it’s also time for team Finland to step on the ice for the first time in a match-up. Finland’s first opponent was Slovakia, which had been able to gather a roster ready for surprice.

The experienced forward Leo Komarov made his return after many years to the Finnish national team. He played a long career in the NHL, but for this season he came back to Europe and joined the KHL club SKA. The forward represented Finland in the Sochi Olympics.

The game was the first one for the Helsinki team in the year 2022 and Jokerit played in the home ice – without audience though, since the covid restrictions had emptied the stands in the turn of the year. These conditions shall last for at least couple of weeks.

On the last game of the year for CSKA and Jokerit these two teams met each other in Moscow. After battling a few times quite recently the teams knew each other pretty well and they most likely knew what’ was ahead of them on the ice. Both earlier games were played in Helsinki and CSKA won them with a narrow margin.
Jokerit rolled over Kunlun Red Star on the home ice
Kunlun Red Star had lost nine consecutive games and the reminder of the regular season didn’t matter that much to the team as the possibilities to get to the playoffs had gone away. Jokerit were in a much better situation, but also the Helsinki team had been losing a lot lately. Therefore Jokerit wanted to get back on track against the China based team.
Jokerit defeated Dinamo in a game of narrow margins
These two teams had their first match-up of the season just a week ago in Minsk. That time the home team was slightly better and took the points with them. Malte Strömwall was in a huge role with his three goals. Jokerit have been on a losing-streak and haven’t received a single point from their last three games. Dinamo had taken wins from their two most recent games as they’d beaten Jokerit and also Dinamo Riga.
Hot goaltending secured the win for Spartak over Jokerit
Spartak and Jokerit had faced each other twice before in this regular season and in both times the visiting team has been victorious. The history was favourable for Jokerit, but it was the Friday’s game to decide, if the past times mattered in any sense.

Jokerit team captain Marko Anttila got selected to 2022 Fonbet KHL All-Star Game among his team mate Brian O’Neill. The event will be held in Chelyabinsk in the middle of January. Anttila has not been chosen to such role before, so he is excited about the opportunity.
Jokerit managed to win the resilient Severstal
Severstal and Jokerit had played against each other once before in this regular season and that time Jokerit were stronger by numbers 4–1 in Helsinki. Since then both teams have been playing rather well, as Jokerit lead the western conference and Severstal were on the fifth spot.
Jokerit took the points in a tight game against Amur
Jokerit got to start their four-game week at home ice as they faced Amur in Finland’s independence day match in Hartwall Arena. The Helsinki team had lost their most recent game against SKA in St. Petersburg, but still Jokerit had managed to take at least some points out of four of their five previous games.
SKA got the points against Jokerit in a tight game
SKA came in to the game with many defencemen absent, but such a good quality team if anybody was able to handle the situation. Jokerit on the other hand had a pretty good situation injury-wise. Friday’s game was the third one between these two teams in this regular season.
Jokerit managed to defeat Vityaz
Vityaz and Jokerit hadn’t played against each other yet in this regular season, so it was a bit unclear how the game would appear. Both teams had been playing tight matches before the first match-up between each other, so neither had the upper hand on mental aspect in that sense. However, in the big picture Jokerit were leading the western conference and Vityaz were second to last.
Jokerit beated Lokomotiv with third period goals
These two teams knew each other very well beforehand and as they just recently competed against each other, they most likely remembered what was coming from the opponent’s side. Jokerit had won two of the three previous games this season, but Lokomotiv was the winner of the most recent one.

Jokerit had won their most recent game, which was on Monday against Spartak in Moscow. The game was full of emotions as it all started with two fights and ended up in glorious victory by the Helsinki team. Lokomotiv on the oher hand had won three of their five previous games, but in the most recent one they suffered a narrow loss against Neftehimik by score 1–0.

Spartak and Jokerit played against each other on Saturday in Helsinki. That time Spartak were able to rise, come from behind and secure the points to themselves with goals of last minutes. Jokerit didn’t play poorly, but lacked some focus on the deciding moments.

Jokerit had played one game after a break from the regular season as the first Euro Hockey Tour tournament was played in Helsinki. The Finnish team lost to Dynamo Moscow in an away game, even though they were able to improve their game through the 60 minutes.

After winning Admiral in Vladivostok and having a fourth consecutive game with points earned, Jokerit travelled to Novosibirsk. There the Helsinki team faced Sibir in their third game of the tour in the far east. Jokerit made some changes to their roster, but Janne Juvonen got to keep his position as a starting goaltender.

Jokerit started their tour to the far east on Thursday in the game against Amur. The Helsinki team from Finland had travelled to the east coast of Russia and will play there this week, and then returning closer to home – playing a few more games in Novosibirsk and Nur-Sultan.
Jokerit swept Dinamo Riga off with a dominant performance
Jokerit came in to Sunday’s game being second in the Western Conference. Dinamo on the other hand were in 10th place, two points away from the playoff spot. The teams faced each other the first time in this season. The Helsinki team had won both preseason games against Dinamo.
Metallurg got a win over Jokerit after a comeback
Jokerit were about to face an ultimate challenge at their home ice, as Metallurg Magnitogorsk hadn’t lost only, but two games in the entire regular season. The visitors were on the first place in the Eastern Conference of the KHL with the 34 points they had gathered in their 19 games.
Jokerit was left without goals against SKA
Jokerit and SKA met each other first time this season on last Friday. These two top teams of the whole KHL gave the over 10 000 spectators in Helsinki such a show that it won’t be forgotten any time soon. David Sklenicka scored the deciding goal in overtime after a high-paced thriller.
