On Monday, Sep. 13, the KHL Board of Directors held their latest meeting. The agenda included discussion of the league’s financial plan, the distribution of TV and media revenues among the clubs, a report into controls over clubs’ activities and an update from the KHL’s chief referee about hot topics around officiating.
KHL management meets with club directors
On June 8, ahead of the KHL Closing Ceremony for the 2020-2021 season, KHL president Alexei Morozov held the traditional meeting with the directors of the member clubs. The discussion included a summary of the season just gone, talks about how the KHL development is being implemented and more.

The hard salary cap will stay at 900 million rubles
The KHL Board of Directors voted to implement the salary cap for the upcoming 2020/21 season at the planned level of 900 million rubles (just over US$12 million). On April 30, the board discussed the possibility of increasing the cap to 1.3 billion rubles (US$17.5 million) but, after conducting a remote poll the directors agreed to leave article 50 of the KHL’s regulations unchanged. Thus, next season will see a hard salary cap of 900 million rubles.
Spartak and Dynamo to play behind closed doors
Dear hockey fans, according to the recent Moscow Mayor's decree from Mar. 10 no. 10-UM on the imposition of a prevention regime, and to the Spartak's technical impossibility to limit the game's attendance to 5,000 fans, the Kontinental Hockey League decided to have the Mar. 12 game between Spartak and Dynamo Moscow behind closed doors.
Alexei Morozov: ‘We stand by our salary cap’
Alexei Morozov was elected president of the KHL on Feb. 14. He will be in post for an initial four-year period. His appointment was officially unveiled by outgoing president Dmitry Chernyshenko, who is taking on a new role as Deputy Prime Minister in the Russian government.
Board of Directors to introduce a salary floor from 2020/21
The KHL Board of Directors caught up with the progress of various working groups at a meeting on Friday, Sep. 6 in Moscow. Among the questions under discussion were changes to the tournament structure, loan deals for players and the introduction of a salary floor for KHL players starting from the 2020/21 season.
KHL shares to club over $6 million revenue
On Friday, the 6th of September, at a meeting of the KHL Board of Directors in Moscow, approval was given to the distribution among member clubs of profits earned from the sale of TV rights to matches in the Championship. The total sum shared out between the League’s teams amounted to more than 419 million rubles, over $6 million, subject to Russian Sales Tax.

League reveals marketing and communication award laureates
On May 30 the annual marketing and communication KHL seminar was held in Moscow for all the representatives of KHL, JHL, and WHL clubs. During the event, the League revealed 15 laureates for the best marketing, internet, and social projects, other than the best press offices and other. Moreover, the best photographer and journalist of the seasons were awarded. For the second year, the KHL awards the best among those who worked with media and fans.
