Due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic and the decision to curtail the current KHL season, the traditional Closing Ceremony for the 2019/20 campaign will not take place.

The league concluded that the event, scheduled for the end of May, could not go ahead without risking the health of those attending. In addition, there is currently a government order indefinitely banning the staging of any cultural or sporting event. It is not currently possible to predict when this ban will be lifted. The KHL also feels it would not be appropriate to stage this event in a changed format that could allow for current health and safety requirements to be met. All of these factors contributed to the decision to cancel the 2019/20 Closing Ceremony.

The winners of all individual and team prizes that can be awarded based on the results of the regular season will be announced in due course. The prize winners will be confirmed by the KHL Board of Directors.

Alexei Morozov, KHL President:

Unfortunately, at the moment the situation with this pandemic dictates the conditions for everyone. It seems to me that even if the restrictions on holding events is lifted before the end of May, it is not sensible for us to ask people to put their health at risk by attending the Closing Ceremony. In previous years, we welcomed about 1,000 guests to the ceremony. Moreover, it would be hard to stage this ceremony in the form we are used to enjoying because we have been unable to complete this year’s championship.

Nevertheless, even this curtailed season has its worthy winners. We will announce them, and the prizes will either be sent to the clubs or presented at the opening games of the next season.
