Alexei Morozov, KHL President
I’m grateful to the league’s board of directors, and its chairman Gennady Timchenko, for the faith and support they have shown me today and over the past four years. My first months in the job were difficult because of the pandemic, we had to make tough, unpopular decisions. We faced adversity, but it made us stronger. Then came more challenges, but even in the current geopolitical climate we are continuing to develop: to improve our product and bring a new generation of fans to fall in love with the game.
We successfully implemented the seven-year development strategy that was introduced under Dmitry Chernyshenko and now there is serious work underway to prepare new strategy aimed at generating even more entertainment for our fans and players. There’s a lot of detailed work to enhance our clubs’ commercial potential – the league and the clubs need to be even more attractive to new partners and fans.
We’re looking forward to the most exciting and important part of the season – the playoffs. This season, we will have cross-conference pairings from round two and we’re sure that this new feature will generate even more intrigue and set up interesting new rivalries. Next season, we’re planning to extend our season and the Gagarin Cup battle will wage all the way into May!
I’d like to thank everyone who supports us and believes in the KHL team. We have a lot of work to do together for the good of our beloved sport. I, and all my colleagues on the KHL team, will do all we can to ensure that interest in hockey only grows, and the champions are crowned in a fair sporting contest on the ice.
