Signings, summer hockey, cybersports
The KHL’s players will be returning to their clubs in a couple of weeks – and we already have news of 2025’s first pre-season tournament. Meanwhile, our teams continue to build their rosters. But it’s still holiday time for many, with some KHL stars showing off their gaming skills alongside some of Russia’s leading cyber-athletes.
Gold for Salavat Yulaev, rebuild for SKA
Salavat Yulaev edged the first ever KHL 3x3 Championship title after a nail-biting gold-medal game against Ak Bars. There was more on-ice action on Sunday, when Russia’s NHL stars came home to play in the Game of the Year in Moscow. Meanwhile, off the ice, SKA had a busy week of trading players.
3x3 finalists set, Vityaz drops out
The on-going KHL 3x3 Championship is approaching the final stages. The six teams to go to the playoffs were confirmed at the weekend and the big showdown is coming up in Moscow next month. Elsewhere, Vityaz announced it is withdrawing from competition and a young goalie makes waves at the NHL draft.
Gagarin on a knife-edge, Kharlamov sees record attendance
It’s cup final time, and in KHL and Junior Hockey League alike, there’s plenty to get excited about. Loko is up 2-1 on Traktor in a Gagarin Cup final that promises to have many more twists and turns before someone lifts the cup. And among the juniors, we’ve seen record crowds in St. Petersburg as SKA-1946 takes on SKA.
Final stretch for playoff hopefuls
With two weeks of the regular season to play, there are just three teams left unsure of their playoff fate – all of them in the Eastern Conference. Will the full line-up be decided this week, or will it go to the wire? Elsewhere, we’re looking forward to inaugurating a new KHL arena and following the pursuit of a goal record.
Three spaces to fill, new arena opens
The playoff picture is getting clearer. Last week saw six teams qualify for post-season in the Western Conference, leaving just one place up for grabs. And in the East, two more secured their places, with three teams in contention for the two remaining spots. Elsewhere, Traktor’s forwards hit new heights, a new arena staged its first game and long, distinguished service was rewarded in Minsk.
Playoffs start to take shape
We’re on the final stretch of the regular season and the playoff picture is starting to get a little clearer. Last week saw two more teams confirm their post season place, while another was eliminated. And we saw some player landmarks – a 1,000th game, a 200th goal and a KHL debut.
Goals a-plenty, tumbling records and All-Star updates
There was no shortage of scoring in the KHL last week: Sunday’s card alone produced 55 goals! And that means new scoring records and a first hat-trick for a rising star. The All-Star Week also got off to a high-scoring start among the juniors, while the stars of next weekend’s show in Novosibirsk are set for the 2025 Fonbet KHL All-Star Game.
From Petersburg to Tashkent
The KHL’s global reach keeps growing. After entering a team in an international event for the first time at the weekend, the league is gearing up for the latest instalment of its World Games project. There’s also a groundbreaking 3x3 event on the horizon, plus the latest transfer news.
World Team, World Games; the KHL goes global
The KHL’s international status was underlined as the New Year approaches. Last week saw the KHL World Team announce its roster ahead of this weekend’s Channel 1 Cup in St. Petersburg. And tickets went on sale for the latest edition of the KHL World Games, scheduled for Dec. 22 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Legendary coach heads back to KHL – for one weekend only!
A former Gagarin Cup-winning coaching partnership is returning to Russia for a special engagement next month. In addition, the league announced ground-breaking plans for a new tournament format. Elsewhere, a celebrated Russian star scored a spectacular goal and a recent import finally got off the mark after 23 games without finding the net.
High scoring, low scoring
The big news from the KHL last week was an all-time scoring record for Vadim Shipachyov. He reached 929 career points, overtaking Sergei Mozyakin’s total. Elsewhere, goals proved harder to come by – with one team setting an unwanted record for the most consecutive games without finding the net.
Shipachyov’s big week
We have a new record for KHL games played, and we’ve seen Sergei Mozyakin’s scoring record equalled. Now, Vadim Shipachyov is looking to set his own record points tally. His first chance of doing so comes on Monday against an opponent adapting to life under its third head coach of the season. Elsewhere, two Vityaz men caught the eye this week, while defensemen continue to make big scoring contributions.
