Zach Fucale has been one of the standout performers of the current postseason, backstopping Dinamo Minsk to a convincing first-round victory over Dynamo Moscow as the Belarusians swept the series. The Canadian netminder was excellent throughout the series, earning Best Goalie honors for the opening round of the Gagarin Cup playoffs. Remarkably, this marks the third consecutive time his team has eliminated Dynamo Moscow at this stage — twice with Traktor and now with Minsk — further cementing his reputation as a reliable postseason performer in the league.
Born in Laval, Quebec, on May 28, 1995, Fucale’s path to professional hockey followed a classic Canadian trajectory. A standout in junior hockey, he quickly established himself as one of the most promising goalies of his birth year, which later led to his selection in the second round of the NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens in 2013. His performances on the international stage also underlined his pedigree, representing Canada at multiple World Junior Championships and contributing to a gold-medal-winning campaign.
Transitioning to the professional ranks, Fucale spent several seasons developing in North America, primarily in the American Hockey League. Starting with the St. John’s IceCaps — at the time affiliated with Montreal — he gained valuable experience while adapting to the demands of pro hockey. Over the years, he moved across different organizations in both the AHL and ECHL, most successfully with the Hershey Bears.
Although he often had to battle for playing time, those seasons proved crucial in shaping his game. His perseverance paid off during his stint with the Bears, where he was part of the roster that captured the Calder Cup in 2023. Even in a secondary role, Fucale demonstrated readiness whenever called upon.
After a long career in the North American leagues, Fucale moved overseas and signed with Traktor. He spent two strong seasons in Chelyabinsk, helping the Black-and-Whites reach the Gagarin Cup finals in 2024-2025, where the team suffered a 1-4 loss to Lokomotiv, en route to its first KHL title. He has an impressive 15 shutouts across two seasons with Traktor.
After his contract in Chelyabinsk ran out, Fucale made the move to Dinamo Minsk, where as expected he has taken on the role of starting goalie. His impact has been immediate, providing stability and confidence to a team aiming to take the next step in the playoffs. Furthermore, he added another five shutouts to his impressive KHL resume.
In the 2025–2026 postseason, Fucale has been among the league’s top netminders, posting strong numbers in both save percentage and goals-against average while leading Minsk past Dynamo Moscow in the opening round. He only allowed one goal to the Muscovites in each of the four games of the series.
Now firmly established as Minsk’s number one netminder, Fucale continues to build on his growing legacy in the KHL — one that increasingly links his name with postseason success and decisive performances when it matters most.
