The KHL matchday starts early in the Far East with Amur hosting the Shanghai Dragons. The Tigers had a promising start of their 2025-2026 campaign with a 2:0 win in Novosibirsk, but then had two straight losses, to Barys (3:4 SO) and Avangard (1:2), respectively. They will try to rebound back as Amur starts a home series today with a game against the Shanghai Dragons. The Chinese franchise had an even better start and are so far undefeated in regulation, with a loss to Admiral after shootouts and two wins, over SKA (7:4) and Lokomotiv (4:1), respectively. Today, they will try to improve their record.
In Vladivostok, Admiral hosts Sibir in the teams’ second encounter this season. On Friday, the two sides met in Novosibirsk, with Vladimir Tkachyov netting the decisive shootout attempt to set the game for Sibir (2:1 SO). It was Sibir’s lone win this season, with the Sailors losing their second match in a row after also surrendering to CSKA (0:1). Sibir will then continue its Far East tournee with a double-header in Khabarovsk.
In Omsk, Avangard will try to gain momentum as the Hawks face Dinamo Minsk. Avangard just achieved a nice win in an 11-goal thriller against Dynamo Moscow, courtesy of a hat-trick by forward Nikolai Prokhorkin. The Bison just achieved their second win in three games this season with a 3:1 victory in Astana with a double by forward Alex Limoges and yet another strong performance by Zach Fucale between the piping. It will be an exciting match, with Avangard on the verge of celebrating its 700th KHL win.
In the Urals, Avtomobilist and Salavat Yulaev clash again after the Motormen got the best of the Ufa franchise with a 4:1 score just on Friday. Avtomobilist’s imports were in fine shape as both Stephane Da Costa and Reid Boucher scored each a goal and an assist as the Motormen celebrated their second win this season. Moreover, Da Costa and Brooks Macek may hit milestones in today’s match.
Closing an intense Eastern matchday is a showdown between Barys and Dynamo Moscow. The Muscovites will try to rebound back after a disappointing 4:7 loss in Omsk, and only one win in three games so far (a 2:1 SO victory over Metallurg). The Astana franchise had a nice start of the season with two straight wins, but then lost to Dinamo Minsk on Saturday (1:3) despite a good showing and a nice crowd of more than 11,600. With both teams seeking for a win, uncertainty will be key in the Kazakh capital.
