Amur and Admiral return to hockey after their encounter on Feb. 6 – won by the Sailors (2:1 OT). The Tigers will host Avangard, while Admiral faces Avtomobilist. Amur lost its last couple of matches, also losing to Sibir before playing with its regional rival (1:5). The Hawks are instead on a two-game winning streak, celebrating road victories over Admiral (5:2) and Lada (2:1). In Vladivostok, the team could enjoy a double from Nikolai Prokhorkin, finally recovering a player from IL. After today’s game, Avangard will fly back to Omsk. Yesterday, the Tigers announced to have signed team’s leader Alex Galchenyuk to a new two-year contract.
In Vladivostok, Admiral and Avtomobilist will both seek a return to victory, with the Motormen most recently losing to Ak Bars to halt an eleven-game winning streak. Avtomobilist is currently the fourth team in the Eastern Conference and will be trying to get some further points to cement its spot in the Conference’s top four. Admiral has a ten-point cushion over Neftekhimik, but the Sailors will be seeking points, nevertheless.
Tied with Admiral in the standings is Sibir. Today, the team will seek a fourth straight victory as Lada comes to town. The Togliatti side has nine straight defeats and will be trying to return to winning games, although it won’t be easy against a motivated home team. Moreover, Sibir’s head coach Vadim Yepanchintsev will celebrate his 200th game as a KHL head coach today, adding a layer of intrigue to the game, with Sibir having further motivation as the team enters another game of a four-match homestand.
In the last game in the East, Barys welcomes SKA as the Kazakhs start a series of five home games. The Kazakhs keep on being the last team in the league and they lost their last three matches. SKA, on the other hand, recently lost to Dynamo Moscow, but has an encouraging three wins in its last five games. The St. Petersburg side is now the sixth seed in the Western Conference, at just one point from Spartak.
The action then moves to the Western Conference. In Sochi, the hosts face CSKA with both sides having won their last game (against Neftekhimik, 3:2 OT, and Vityaz, 3:1, respectively). However, the two teams are in very different positions in the standings. HC Sochi is at the bottom of the conference’s table, while CSKA is tied with Dynamo at 70 points, so far as the third seed. Lokomotiv is much higher, but the Muscovites will want to get points from the game to cement their spot in the top four. HC Sochi did defeat CSKA earlier this season, but is yet to achieve a home win against them at the KHL level.
The temperature will be even higher in the Moscow Region, with Kunlun Red Star hosting Torpedo. The meeting in Mytishchi will be one of the key battles for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Kunlun Red Star has come very close to eighth place, but before the break for the 2025 Fonbet KHL All-Star Game, the team suffered four consecutive losses. Torpedo, on the other hand, entered the break with three victories, including two after shootouts and a nice one in Kazan (5:1). This game will be one of Kunlun Red Star’s best chances to get closer to the playoff line. The Dragons started their hunt with a home win over Salavat Yulaev two days ago (4:2).
In Moscow, Dynamo will host Spartak in another Capital Derby. After facing SKA, another key rival, Spartak, will visit Dynamo. The teams have met only twice this season, exchanging home victories. The Red-and-Whites collected a 4:2 win in September, while Dynamo responded with a dominant 5:0 win in the next month. Cedric Paquette scored in both games for the Blue-and-Whites, netting a goal in the first match and a hat-trick in the second. Dynamo will need to pay attention to Spartak’s top line – the productive unit is on a four-game scoring streak.
Closing the game is a showdown between Dinamo Minsk and Vityaz. The Bisons will hit the ice again after a nice win over Lokomotiv yesterday, while Vityaz will try to return to victory after six straight defeats.
