Vityaz had a busy week, with five games in just seven days, and Jeremy Roy was on the spotlight as he contributed six points – all coming from assists – helping the Moscow Region side grabbing four victories. Roy’s top performance was on Sunday, when he helped Vityaz defeating Severstal (5:3) as he had four assists – his record in the KHL after he had a double and an assist against Avangard on Oct 18 and a hat-trick of assists against Metallurg last year. Vityaz has improved its position in the standings and is currently at just four points from the playoffs line. For his efforts, Roy was awarded Best defenseman of the week honors.
D, Metallurg, 3 G, 3 (0+3) points, +1
The Swedish blueliner is keeping on having a strong season, helping Metallurg reaching eight straight wins. Press had a particular good night on Tuesday, when Magnitka traveled to Minsk. Metallurg achieved a solid 4:1 win, with the Swedish defenseman potting two assists, including helping Nikita Mikhailis opening the score to propel Magnitka’s victory. Two days later, Press had another assist in Metallurg’s 3:2, OT win over Sibir. Press is currently his team’s fourth scorer, and his role within the team will most likely increase as the playoff approaches.
F, Kunlun Red Star, 2 G, 3 (2+1) points, -1
The Alberta native had a good week with Kunlun Red Star, with the Dragons getting one win in the Saturday game against Sibir. With the Novosibirsk side up 2:1 in the third period, Wong picked up his own rebound to send the game to extra time, where Brandon Yip scored to win it all for the Dragons. Earlier in the week, Wong had a two-point performance in Kunlun Red Star’s losing effort against Lokomotiv (4:5). First, the forward scored in the opening frame with the Dragons going up by two, then he assisted Zach Leslie’s powerplay tally in the middle frame. However, as said, Wong’s effort wasn’t enough to guarantee the victory. The forward is getting momentum, and his points may help the Dragons to close the gap in the standings.
D, Lokomotiv, 2 G, 2 (1+1) points, +2
The Slovakian, large-framed defenseman had another two strong performances last week, helping Lokomotiv winning one game and scoring a goal in the Railwaymen’s losing effort to Spartak (1:2) on Saturday. Gernat had one assist in Lokomotiv’s 5:4 win against Kunlun Red Star, assisting Denis Alexeyev’s tally in the opening frame. He ended the game with a plus-1 differential, however, Tyler Wong scored for the Dragons on his penalty in the seventh minute. Two days later, Gernat scored Loko’s lone goal when the Railwaymen lost to SKA (1:2) – once again, he ended the game with a plus-1 rating. Lokomotiv is currently one of the top teams in the Western Conference, and Gernat is a big part of it.
