From Sochi to Kazan. 2022 preseason tournaments
We’re now at less than a month to the preseason tournaments’ start, where veterans strive to gain form and coaches can see rookies in action. Here is a list of all the planned preseason tournaments – any change will be announced separately.
Sochi Hockey Open
Aug 3-9, Sochi
HC Sochi, Admiral, Avangard, Dinamo Minsk, SKA, Team Russia B
As tradition dictates, the tournament in Sochi will start the preseason battles. The tournament is at its seventh edition, and no team won it more than once. If this trend continues, this year Admiral or Dinamo Minsk will lift the trophy.

Romazan Memorial Trophy

Magnitka still holds the record for the most wins in the domestic tournament, but the most recent triumph is dated 2018. Sibir, who won it twice in a row in the latest two editions, won’t take part this year.

Bashkortostan Cup

Salavat Yulaev, Dynamo Moscow, Lokomotiv, Severstal
The Ufa side won its domestic tournament nine times, but last year, Lokomotiv prevailed. This season, Dynamo Moscow replaces Avtomobilist in the competition’s lineup.

Kazakhstan President’s Cup
Aug 16-20, Nur-Sultan
Barys, Avtomobilist, Kunlun, Metallurg, Neftekhimik
The Nur-Sultan tournament has been scheduled since 2010, and it traditionally included Russian teams, but not last year. This time, however, the Kazakhstan President’s Cup for the first time will include KHL teams only.

Chelyabinsk Governor’s Cup
Aug 24-27, Chelyabinsk
Traktor, Avtomobilist, Barys, Metallurg
Since 2013, the home side wins the tournament every other year. Last year, Avtomobilist took the lead, thus this year it should be Traktor’s turn again.

The Mayor of Moscow Cup can be called the most stable tournament of the KHL preseason – not only the participants’ lineup is the same as last year, but so the dates are. The competition also kept the same format – for a full match, only a final between Dynamo Moscow and Kunlun is left.

The preseason’s youngest trophy is changing its format – earlier teams without a Gagarin Cup win weren’t allowed to take part. Both times Ak Bars won its domestic tournament, but this year the participants’ lineup will be a little bit more modest.
