The Gagarin Cup began the day in the KHL head office on Leningradsky Prospect, already flanked by soldiers of the Preobrazhensky Regiment forming a guard of honor.

The trophy was chauffered around Moscow in a GAZ 12 ZIM automobile, specially-adorned with the Gagarin Cup logo.

The first stop on the itinerary was the Central Academic Theater of the Russian Army and the nearby Yekaterina Park. The venue was not chosen at random, as Moscow's “Army Men,” CSKA, will play in the final.

The Gagarin Cup stopped at the "To the Stars" monument which, along with the name of the trophy, underlines the link between hockey and space.

The trophy rested among courting couples, enjoying the spring sunshine in Yekaterina Park.

The next port of call was the Stalin skyscraper, at Krasnaya Vorota (“Red Gateway”), built from 1947-1952.

Finally, the Cup made its way to Kazan station, from where trains depart for the Tatarstan capital, home to Ak Bars, winners of the Eastern Conference.

Waiting to greet the Cup in its private compartment was Salavat Yulaev's Enver Lisin, who played for Ak Bars in the early 2000s before his spells with the Coyotes and Rangers.
