To mark the end of the seventh full month’s play of the ninth season of the Championship, The Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the month in four categories.
– Best goaltender was Vasily Koshechkin (Metallurg Magnitogorsk), who helped his team celebrate victory in all nine games in which he featured. Koshechkin twice kept the opposition of the scoreboard, and he ended the month with a save percentage of 95.73 and a goals against average of 1.53;
– Best defenseman was Vladislav Gavrikov (Lokomotiv), who played in 11 matches, recording 3 (1+2) points (including the winning goal in Game 5 of the Conference semi-final series at CSKA), 8 hits and 10 blocks. The 21-year-old D-man did not receive a single negative rating in any match, meriting a +3 for the month;
– Best forward was Danis Zaripov (Metallurg Magnitogorsk), who made 9 appearances, winning 9 and finding the back of the net in 7 of them. The Magnitka forward finished the month with 14 goals (the highest total in the League), 4 assists and a +10, and his goals haul included three playoff hat-tricks - the victims were Barys (twice) and Kunlun – and the crucial late double against Ak Bars in Kazan which turned a looming defeat into a stunning victory in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final series;
– Best rookie was Metallurg Magnitogorsk defenseman Grigory Dronov, who took part in 7 of the champions’ 9 outings in March, averaging 4 minutes 30 seconds of ice time. The 19-year-old contributed an assist in Game 3 against Barys and did not receive a single negative rating on his way to earning a +1 for the month.
