Another day, another game for Dinamo Riga, and once again huge changes were made before the fourth meeting against Severstal this season. Valerijs Kulibaba no longer the main man on the bench has been replaced by Dinamo Riga legend - Vladimir Krikunov. Another attempt to reset things for the Latvian franchise hoping to crawl out of a hole.

A six game home-stand for Dinamo Riga came to an end this time facing off against one of KHL’s powerhouses - Ak Bars Kazan. Statistically speaking the visitors had an upper hand having won 18 times in 25 meetings. Prior to the match Ak Bars sat 4th in the Eastern Conference while Dinamo Riga were 10th and looking to close the gap to the play-off zone.

The international break is over and Dinamo were set to continue their long home-stretch that hasn't been as successful as they would have wanted as they entered the game with two consecutive losses. Their opponent Admiral on the other hand is one a seven-game road trip in which they previously beat the Vityaz team. It’s hard to imagine a harder game to play than the one Riga would have to get through tonight, a four-point duel and them going through massive changes. Riga is without their head coach - Sergei Zubov who stepped down in the morning when the team had to fly to their first destination of a two-game road trip.

Red hot Dinamo Riga are back home for a game and would look to extend their winning streak. A lone home game in the Latvian capital means a chance to get to four victories in a row. The opponent that has arrived won’t be an easy task - Metallurg has been by far one of the most hot if not the hottest team early on in the season. Dinamo haven’t had much luck against their opponent as of late having lost four in a row at home to Metallurg and their last win dating back to December of 2016. If there’s a chance to take two points at home it would be right now and Riga were confident that they can achieve that.

In the road trip opener they had to face-off against Moscow Spartak side - a team that has great offence and it was clear that the visitors would have to keep their defensive walls tight in order to fight for two points in the standings. Drama in Mytishchi: Dinamo Riga wins their first game of the season
Drama till the end, a high-scoring game with loads of goals and very little defence on both sides meant that Dinamo Riga would finally earn their first win of the season with the final score of 6:5 against Kunlun Red Star. Players with experience stepped up - Rudolf Ceverny scored two as well as 20-year-old rookie Patriks Ozols who earned his first career goal in the KHL to help his team seal the victory.

Dinamo Riga continues their road trip this time facing off against their nemesis - CSKA Moscow. Riga and Moscow side have seen each other 35 times and latvian side has come on top only in six situations. Both teams came into the game following a loss in the opening games of the season. CSKA lost 0:3 against Avangard, while Riga lost 2:3 against Lokomotiv. For Dinamo it is the second of a three game road trip. For the visiting side CSKA has always been a hard opponent - last season Dinamo earned their first victory after a 10-year drought when they couldn’t manage to beat the opponent.

Dinamo Riga finished off their previous season missing the playoffs yet again continuing the long drought, while Lokomotiv showed their strength qualifying for the second round of the Gagarin Cup playoffs where they eventually were disarmed by CSKA in a seven-game battle. Since then both teams have addressed their needs and contributed to making key changes to their rosters.
