Green Derby, round 3, in Ufa!

Preview
Today is an eventful matchday in the KHL, with the third edition of the Green Derby scheduled in Ufa. After Kazan took home the first round with a 3:0 victory, Salavat Yulaev had its revenge last week with a 3:2 win and Shakir Mukhamadullin netting the game-winner. The teams exchanged victories so far, thus a team will get the go-ahead in the series tonight.

In the meantime, Metallurg hosts Avtomobilist. Despite the injuries, the Motormen are still the second seed in the East and they will certainly want to defeat Magnitka and take back the reigns – but it won’t be easy as Metallurg is on a two-game winning streak and will want to stretch it.

The action then moves to the West, with four further games. First, Vityaz hosts Kunlun Red Star, with both sides losing games recently. Then, Torpedo welcomes Dynamo Moscow in an exciting matchup in Nizhny Novgorod. Also the Western leader will hit the ice tonight, as SKA faces Neftekhimik in St. Petersburg. SKA suffered only one regulation loss thus far this year, and the Wolves have two goalies sitting on the injury list.

A showdown between HC Sochi and Traktor closes the matchday. Recently, the Black Sea franchise fired its coach Andrei Nazarov and tonight Sergei Svetlov will have his debut on the team’s bench. Most recently, Svetlov coached Amur in the 2020-2021 season.
