On October 17, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the United Arab Emirates between the Kontinental Hockey League, Avangard hockey club, Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, and Dubai Sports Council. The parties agreed to develop ice hockey in the UAE, with the Dubai Ice Show the first step towards achieving the goal.

The Dubai Ice Show will be held from December 3rd to December 5th, 2021. On December 3rd, the regular season game between reigning Gagarin Cup winner Avangard Omsk and Ak Bars Kazan will be played. The game will be held at Coca Cola Arena, the multipurpose indoor complex with a capacity of 17 000, and as ice hockey venue 12.000 seats.

In addition, on December 4th and 5th, fans will be able to watch the Sleeping Beauty ice show, directed by Olympic figure skating champion, Tatiana Navka. The lead will be performed by Tatiana Navka and Olympic figure skating champion Alina Zagitova.

Alexey Morozov, KHL President:
“We are excited that the KHL World Games project will resume after almost two years. The UAE will become the 15th country to host a KHL game, and we are very pleased that the most recent Gagarin Cup winner Avangard Omsk and the only three-time champion in our League Ak Bars will go to Dubai. The last playoff series between these two teams were some of the best in KHL’s history. The upcoming game is bound to be hard-fought and spectacular. We appreciate the cooperation of Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Dubai Sports Council, and Avangard hockey club, which will allow the game to be played in this remarkable location.

The UAE is a promising market for hockey, and we will make every effort to ensure that Dubai has an outstanding and memorable first visit from KHL.”

Alexander Krylov, Avangard Board of Directors Chairman:
“This is a great new challenge for our club, and we are pleased to support this initiative. We are current champions not only on the ice, but off the ice as well – in terms of our marketing and operations – so, I have no doubt that we will be able to rise to the occasion. We are also planning to hold a number of memorable events, including Tatiana Navka’s Sleeping Beauty ice show, to bring something new to the people in Dubai. Ticketing for the Dubai Ice Show will be announced in the near future. We look forward to seeing you in Dubai in early December!”

Nail Maganov, Ak Bars President:
“We have enthusiastically accepted the League’s offer to play a game against Avangard in Dubai. It is an honor for us to represent the country and the republic abroad, and to support the official Day of Russia at Expo 2020. We are happy that the match-up between Avangard and Ak Bars was chosen by the KHL to demonstrate the power and the attractiveness of our hockey. These are the two strongest clubs of the Eastern Conference which drive the entire industry forward. We will do our best so that the first experience of attending a high-level hockey game becomes memorable for people in Dubai”.

His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of Dubai Sports Council:
“We are really excited about Dubai Ice Show as we sign this MOU alongside Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, with our partners from Russia, Kontinental Hockey League and Avangard Hockey Club.
