KHL.ru explains the schedule for first round playoff games.
The regular season finishes on Feb. 27, after which the 16 top clubs will battle for the Gagarin Cup. At present, 12 teams have secured their place in the playoffs.
In each Conference, the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played in best-of-seven series, won by the first team to get four victories. In each series, the first two games, and the fifth and seventh if required, will be hosted by the team that finished highest in the regular season.
At each stage, the playoff pairings will place the highest seed against the lowest, second highest against second lowest, etc.
March 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 – the dates for the two series involving Avangard and Barys (teams confirmed in second and third place)
March 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 – the dates for the series involving Ak Bars (confirmed in first place) and the fourth placed team in the East.
In the West, two series will begin on March 1, the other two on March 2. CSKA, SKA, Jokerit and Dynamo Moscow will begin their series on home ice. The series involving Dynamo will start on March 2, regardless of the team’s finishing position. This is due to the availability of the VTB Arena.
CSKA and Spartak will start their respective first-round series on the same day to ensure that both clubs can play their home games at the CSKA Arena. The schedule for the remaining series in the West will be announced once all the playoff participants have confirmed their final positions in the standings.
