Have a happy, hockey Christmas!
The KHL would like to wish a Merry Christmas to all of our supporters who are celebrating today and tomorrow.
From its inception, the League has been eager to encourage interest throughout the world, transcending boundaries and using a love of the game to build bridges between fans everywhere. Thus it is a great pleasure to share our championship with fans not just in the European countries that have supplied KHL players and teams – Finland, Sweden, Slovakia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Latvia, Belarus and many more – but also with hockey lovers far beyond. It is an honor to have you with us as we strive to create the most exciting, most skilful hockey championship we can stage.
The current season is shaping up to be one of the best yet: the championship is more competitive than ever, the games are more unpredictable and there is less than ever to choose between the teams as the jockey for position in the playoffs. We’ve also enjoyed several special events: within the last seven days we’ve seen showcase games at St. Petersburg’s Gazprom Arena and the historic Eisstadion Davos in Switzerland.
There’s even more to come. January brings the next round of KHL World Games when Jokerit and Severstal meet in Tallinn, Estonia. Then there’s the All-Star Week, always a highlight of the calendar. February brings the climax of the regular season and the nerve-jangling finale to the race for the playoffs. Then post season get underway as the remaining teams step up a gear in the quest to win the 12th edition of the Gagarin Cup. We can’t wait to share the excitement with you in the months ahead.
And, of course, because Russia’s big winter holiday is at New Year, there’s no reason to miss your hockey fix because of the festive season. Dec. 25 brings a full program of KHL action, with nine games in total. The action starts early, with games in the Far East at Amur and Admiral. As the day moves on, the excitement progresses to Siberia, China and Kazakhstan before culminating in a Moscow derby as CSKA takes on Dynamo in the pick of the evening games.
Have a wonderful, blessed Christmas time … and join us again for more top class hockey action!
