In the 29th minute of Thursday's match in Moscow, Game 5 of the Western Conference semi-final series between CSKA and Jokerit Helsinki, the visiting team scored an apparent goal which triggered a request from the home team bench for a video review. The appeal was made on the grounds of a possible offside.
As the video footage clearly shows, the Jokerit player had both skates in the offensive zone, and, at the moment his stick made contact, the puck was still in the neutral zone; An offside had occurred, and the goal was struck out as a result.
In the 128th minute, with CSKA players celebrating an apparent series-winning goal, the head coach of the visitors appealed for a video review to examine whether interference on the golatender had occurred. The video shows that the CSKA forward initiated contact with the goalie before the puck crossed the line, and as a result, the goal was disallowed.
In the 143rd minute, after the Helsinki Men had scored the game-winning goal, the CSKA bench requested that the video goal judge investigate a possible offside in the build-up to the goal. No such offside was found, and the referee therefore ruled that a goal should stand.
