The Kontinental Hockey League has publicly launched the logo for the playoff stage of the 2017-18 season, which gets underway with the Conference quarter-final series on March 3 (Western Conference) March 4 (Eastern Conference).
KHL decided on a separate logo for the playoffs in order to stress the importance and significance of the season's tmost decisive matches, in which 16 teams enter the battle for the League's most coveted trophy – the Gagarin Cup.
The trophy itself has been chosen as the central element of the 2017-18 playoff logo, as it is the object of desire, the Holy Grail of the quest for glory which the League's clubs embarked upon at the end of last summer. The other main feature is, of course, the number 10, reminding us that this year marks the tenth anniversary season of KHL.
During the 2015-16 season, the KHL developed and introduced a new corporate identity, and as a result, the color scheme and the basic design of the League logo underwent change. The new style corresponds with modern trends in hockey, and the modernized logo has become an integral feature in all KHL imagery. The logo for the 2017-18 playoffs comprises the same monochrome style, and the metallic reflective sheen on the trophy resembles the blade of a hockey player's skate.
The playoff stage of the 10th-anniversary season of the KHL begins on March 3 in the Western conference and March 4 in the East.
Sergei Dobrokhvalov, KHL Vice-President for Communications and Marketing:
“When creating the logo for the 2017-18 playoffs, we placed the figure 10 in the foreground to emphasize the historical significance of the forthcoming knockout stage. The current season is the first significant anniversary of the KHL, and the most exciting part is just around the corner. We can already boast a fascinating climax to the regular season, with eght teams still fighting for a place in the playoffs with just two games remaing, and the fans are looking forward to seeing this drama unfold.”
