Dynamo Moscow 2 Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk 0 (0-0, 1-0, 1-0)
Dynamo returned to the playoff places on its return home to Moscow, extending its winning streak to four games with a straightforward victory over Ugra. Although it took some time for the Blue-and-Whites to find the net in this game, the home team was rarely troubled by a visitor that slipped to its sixth successive loss.
Both goals came on the power play. Alexei Tereshchenko opened the scoring in the 35th minute after an exchange of passes with Vladimir Bryukvin, settling home nerves moments after Dynamo had a goal disallowed. Then, early in the third period, Daniil Tarasov got the vital touch on Ilya Nikulin’s shot from the blue line, deflecting the puck beyond former Dynamo goalie Alexander Sharychenkov to make it 2-0.
The win sees Dynamo join Spartak and Severstal on 52 points, although it has played more games than its immediate rivals. Sochi drops to ninth, but also has a game in hand on today’s victor.
