In a few hours’ time, the curtain will finally come down on the IX season of the Kontinental Hockey League with the traditional grand closing ceremony. This star-studded event, dedicated to celebrating the 2016-17 Championship and rewarding those heroes whose talent, skill, and endeavor helped to make the season such a stunning success, takes place at 20:00, local time, tonight in the concert hall of Moscow’s Barvikha Luxury Village hotel.

To whet the appetite for the 2017 ceremony, fans may enjoy a short trip down memory lane to last year’s event, when among those presenting the awards were Gennady Timchenko and Dmitry Chernyshenko, representing the League’s top management, Igor Levitin and Mikhail Mishustin, who tread the corridors of power in the Russian government, and a host of legendary names from the world of sport:  Vladislav Tretiak, Boris Mikhailov, Vladimir Myshkin, Valery Kamensky, Alexei Morozov, Pavel Bure, and Alexei Yashin, from hockey’s glorious past, as well as speed-skaters Denis Yuskov and Ivan Skobrev, and wrestler Alexander Karelin.

The lion’s share of the prizes went to the Gagarin Cup finalists, Metallurg Magnitogorsk and CSKA Moscow, and we have put together a video clip featuring some of the highlights of the 2015-16 event. We hope you will join us tonight on KHL TV as we reward the players, coaches, and staff who made the IX Championship even better.
