Dinamo Riga strengthened its offense and defense on Tuesday with two high-profile additions. 

Russian international forward and two-time World Champion Nikolai Zherdev, 32, whose resume includes tours of duty in North America with the Blue Jackets, Rangers, and Flyers (NHL totals: 436 games, 116 goals, 148 assists), and extensive KHL service at Atlant, Ak Bars, Spartak, Severstal, Dynamo, HK Sochi, Torpedo, and this season, Neftekhimik, has signed up for the Latvians on a one-year, one-way contract, as has Finnish international defenseman Anssi Salmela, 33, a veteran of spells with the Devils, Thrashers (NHL totals: 112 games, 4 goals, 17 assists), Avangard, and last year, Kunlun Red Star, and a World Championship gold, silver and bronze medalist.
