It is with great sadness that the Kontinental Hockey League learned of the death yesterday of Rafael Kadyrov, one of the finest referees in the country.

Rafael Razimovich Kadyrov first stepped onto the ice in the referee’s uniform back in the 1998-99 season, since when he has officiated with distinction in more than 700 games in national championships. He served as a referee for the KHL from the moment of the League’s foundation, and he also amassed a wealth of international experience on refereeing duty at two IIHF World Championships as well as world youth and junior tournaments.

The Kontinental Hockey League expresses its deepest condolences to Mr. Kadyrov’s family and friends.
