To mark the end of the second round of the Gagarin Cup play-offs – the Conference semi-finals – the Kontinental Hockey League has named the best players of the round in four categories.
– Best goaltender
was Mikko Koskinen
(SKA), who was also the finest goalie of the quarters. In the semis against Dynamo, Mikko played in all six games and recorded four victories, two shutouts, a save percentage of 94.18 and a goals against average of 1.76;
– Best defenseman
was Michal Kempny
(Avangard), with 4 points (2+2), 21 blocks and 13 hits in seven appearances. The Czech D-man did not receive a single minus in any game, earning a +4 for the series, and he scored the winning goal in Game 6;
– Best forward
was Vadim Shipachyov
(SKA), with 12 points (4+8) in six outings. Vadim was at his most lethal in Game 4, in which he celebrated a hat-trick which included the game-winner;
– Best rookie
was 20-year-old Torpedo defenseman Yury Sergiyenko
, whose report card for the semi-final against CSKA reads: 5 games, 2 points (1+1), 9 shots at goal, 8 hits and an average ice time of 16 minutes 37 seconds. Yury’s solitary goal of the series sealed victory for his team in the opening game.
