Finland won the historical gold medals in the Olympic thriller
The Olympic tournament had come to the moment in which only two teams were left to compete. Finland and the team ROC faced each other in the final game on Sunday morning. The Finnish Lions made their way through to the climax by winning Slovakia in the semi-final. Slovakia later defeated Sweden in the bronze medal game.

Slovakia won its first Olympic ice hockey medal thanks to a 4-0 victory over Sweden in the bronze medal game. Teenage wunderkind Juraj Slafkovsky led the way with two goals, while Dinamo Minsk goalie Patrik Rybar came up with a shut-out as his country made history in Beijing.
Finland battled the way through to the final
Finland could’ve been concidered a slight favorite to win the semi-final against Slovakia due to the tournament opening game, in which the Lions beated Slovak’s by 6–2 score. On Friday morning the game was about the sport for the Olympic final and the margins became narrower.

As the men’s Olympic ice hockey tournament is having its first games being played, it’s also time for team Finland to step on the ice for the first time in a match-up. Finland’s first opponent was Slovakia, which had been able to gather a roster ready for surprice.

Team ROC faces a rematch with Switzerland in the knock-out phase of the Women’s Olympic tournament in Beijing. The Wukesong Arena, which will stage most of the women’s games, was the first home of Kunlun Red Star in the KHL, while Russia’s Women’s Hockey League supplies more players than ever to this year’s tournament. The entire Team ROC roster comes from the league, as does Team China. And there are plenty more with WHL connections lining up for their respective nations in this year’s competition.
Komarov and Granlund are ready to play for Finland in the Olympics
The experienced forward Leo Komarov made his return after many years to the Finnish national team. He played a long career in the NHL, but for this season he came back to Europe and joined the KHL club SKA. The forward represented Finland in the Sochi Olympics.
