Russia wins again. Beijer Hockey Games Review
The Red Machine’s march continues relentlessly as Team Russia won all three games at the Euro Hockey Tour’s Sweden stage — it’s the ninth straight win for the Russians, who had Igor Larionov commanding the operations from the bench for the second time this season. Team Sweden claimed second place on home soil, while Finland and the Czech Republic closed the standings with two points each.

Russia earned its eighth consecutive victory of the Euro Hockey Tour, a feat all the more remarkable for the wide range of players called upon by the national team this season. Saturday’s victory over Sweden in Malmo was perhaps the toughest yet, with the Red Machine inching over the line in a shoot-out after absorbing intense pressure in a 1-1 tie.

Thursday’s action was not limited purely to the KHL. Russia had two international engagements, with the senior men’s team winning 3-2 against Finland at the start of the Swedish Hockey Games in Malmo and the ‘B’ team defeating Belarus 4-2 in Kazakhstan.

The opening day of the Channel 1 Cup saw Russia rocked in the first period of its game against Sweden. The visitor jumped to a 3-0 lead before the Red Machine revved up; the second and third periods were more encouraging for Alexei Kudashov’s men but the game ended in a 3-4 loss. It was the same scoreline in Plzen where the Czech Republic took down Finland in overtime. Traktor’s Lukas Sedlak scored twice to get the win for the Czechs.
