Five games on tap as Radulov closes in on 300 goals

Preview
Five games are on tap as winless Sibir and Amur meet in Novosibirsk, while Avangard host HC Sochi in Omsk. Reigning champions Lokomotiv welcome Severstal, with Alexander Radulov chasing his 300th KHL goal, and Dinamo Minsk face the Shanghai Dragons. A classic showdown between Spartak and SKA closes out the matchday.

The matchday starts with a clash between Sibir and Amur. The two Eastern sides are yet to celebrate their first win, with both teams accumulating a regulation and an extra-time loss in their first two games. Sibir will have its home opener today, after two games on the road, while the Tigers will play another two matches before flying back to Khabarovsk for the Sept. 19 game against Dynamo Moscow. Today, one team will finally have its first celebration in the new campaign, and both sides will try to be the one who gets the last laugh.

In the second Eastern game of the night, Avangard and HC Sochi will also be looking for a win. The Hawks fell to Salavat Yulaev at home in the opener, with a 0:4 scoreline. They have an injury-plagued lineup at the moment, with several key players on injured reserve, but that has not lowered the team’s expectations. On the other side of the rink, Sochi comes into today’s match after a 1:5 loss in Nizhnekamsk – the team will equally battle out for a win.

The action then moves to the Western Conference, starting with Lokomotiv hosting Severstal. The reigning champion is currently undefeated, with two straight wins over Traktor (5:1) and the Shanghai Dragons (3:1), respectively. Today, Dmitry Kvartalnov’s men will seek a third straight victory as Severstal comes to town. After losing the opener to Salavat Yulaev (2:3) and collecting the first win of the 2026-2027 campaign over Lada (1:0), the Steelers will hunt their second win in the season, against a traditionally difficult opponent. In all-time head-to-head games, the Railwaymen celebrated 47 wins, against Severstal’s 21.

In Belarus, Dinamo Minsk faces the Shanghai Dragons. The Belarusians will be looking to bounce back after losing the home opener to Torpedo in extra-time (3:4 SO). The Dragons will enter today’s game after collecting a win and a loss in their first couple of matches. They rallied back to celebrate a 5:4 OT win over Neftekhimik, but lost 1:3 in Yaroslavl. In today’s game, Dinamo Minsk will try to please its home crowd and gain the first win in the new season.

Following next is a classic rivalry game between Spartak and SKA, valid for the First Teams’ Cup. Yesterday, SKA defeated Lada in extra time with head coach Igor Larionov celebrating 150 KHL victories, and will be looking for another win. Spartak enters today’s game after an emotional boost following a derby win over CSKA (3:2), and may claim more rest than their St. Petersburg rivals. Much will be up for grabs in this exciting Western Conference matchup.
