Metallurg hosts Amur rematch. Preview September 8th
The matchday starts in Magnitogorsk again as Metallurg hosts Amur for a rematch. Two days ago, Sergei Tolchinsky had a goal and a pair of assists as Magnitka downed the Tigers 4:2 in its home opener, with Andrei Razin celebrating his 350th KHL win. Newly signed Nathan Todd was instrumental too for Magnitka, who could also count on 18 saves from Alexander Smolin. The Tigers will want to forget about the loss and bounce back as soon as possible in the second game of the season.
In the second Eastern game of the matchday, Neftekhimik hosts HC Sochi. The Wolves lost the first game of the season, to the Shanghai Dragons. Neftekhimik was up by three by the mid-game mark, but then the Dragons rallied back and claimed a strong-willed, 5:4 win in extra time. The Black Sea franchise kicks off its campaign today. Yesterday, the team announced to part ways with forward Spencer Foo, who joined the team this summer, but they underwent many changes anyways in the offseason and will be an interesting side to follow as the season unfolds.
The action then moves to the Western Conference for a further game. Gagarin Cup reigning champion Lokomotiv hosts the Shanghai Dragons. The Railwaymen won their first game of the season when they downed Traktor 5:1 in the league’s first matchday. The Dragons celebrated a win as well when they collected an extra-time victory in Nizhnekamsk. It will be an exciting game for the Yaroslavl crowd as both teams will want to build on their previous win to keep going and earn precious points for the Western Conference’s standings. Moreover, it will be a jubilee game for Lokomotiv’s Alexander Radulov.
