Jaskin wins thriller for Dragons, 350 up for Razin. September 6 round-up

Daily Round-up
Sunday’s two KHL games produced plenty of incident. First, Metallurg head coach Andrei Razin celebrated his 350th win in the league, then Shanghai Dragons rallied from 0-3 to beat Neftekhimik in overtime.

Milestone win for Razin

Metallurg Magnitogorsk 4 Amur Khabarovsk 2 (2-1, 1-1, 1-0)

Andrei Razin secured his 350th victory as a head coach in the KHL as Metallurg made a winning start to the 2026/2027 season.

After a summer refresh, Razin named several new faces in Sunday’s roster. Nathan Todd centered the first line, and Vladislav Provolnev was on the first defensive pair. Yegor Ganabin made only his fourth KHL appearance in place of veteran Yegor Yakovlev.

Amur also had several debutants, including defenseman Salava Voynov and forward Kirill Pilipenko. Yaroslav Likhachyov made his first competitive appearance after signing a permanent contract with the Tigers; previously he had impressed during two loans spells in the Far East. The line-up also featured two players born in 2008 – Yaroslav Dyomensky and Boris Borin, who had an impressive pre-season.

Todd marked his Magnitka debut with the opening goal, converting a power play in the eighth minute. A few minutes later, Daniil Vovchenko doubled the lead after good work from Sergei Tolchinsky. However, Amur was always in the game and pulled one back late in the first when a quick counter found the home defense wanting: Yegor Rykov reduced the arrears.

The middle frame followed a similar pattern. Metallurg had more of the play and Amur had to work hard to stay in the game. A breakdown in the Tigers defense presented Ruslan Iskhakov with Magnitka’s third goal, but Amur stayed in contention and Pilipenko pulled one back close to the second intermission.

Early in the third, Tolchinsky restored Metallurg’s two-goal advantage. This time, the lead held: despite six minutes on the power play, Amur could not find a way back.

Jaskin grabs OT winner for Dragons

Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk 4 Shanghai Dragons 5 OT (2-0, 1-2, 1-2, 0-1)

A new-look Dragons team, with Ilya Kovalchuk leading the club’s sporting management, travelled to Nizhnekamsk with high hopes for the coming season.

And the new campaign kicked off with a thrilling OT victory at Neftekhimik, clawing back a 0-3 deficit before high-profile signings Nic Petan and Dmitrij Jaskin found the perfect time to score their first goals for the club.

Things started well for the home team, which led 2-0 at the first intermission. Nikita Khoruzhov broke the deadlock, then Artur Tyanulin converted the first power play of the game. When Matvei Nadvorny’s short-handed marker made it 3-0 midway through the second, Neftkhimik seemed to be in complete control.

But the Dragons roared back. Yegor Solovyov converted that power play to make it 3-1, and Turner Ottenbreit began his second spell at the club with a goal right on the buzzer to send the teams into the final frame at 2-3.

On 47 minutes, Stepan Khripunov tied it up and the momentum seemed to be swinging Shanghai’s way. But two quick penalties left the visitor reduced to three skaters and Andrei Belozyorov restored Neftekhimik’s lead with 10 minutes to play.

The drama continued: a Dragons power play saw Petan tie it up at 4-4 in the 53rd minute, off a Jaskin assist. That took the game to overtime, where the former Czech international marked his Shanghai debut with the decisive goal, occupying his preferred spot on the slot and steering Brennan Menell’s feed past Filipp Dolganov to make it 5-4.
