Three games on a light matchday
It will be a light KHL Thursday, with three games on tap: Avtomobilist welcomes Admiral and Lada hosts Barys in the East, while HC Sochi faces off with Amur in the Western Conference.
The matchday starts with Avtomobilist welcoming Admiral. The Motormen have already defeated the Sailors twice, who are currently on a five-game losing streak. Most recently, Avtomobilist achieved a win in Astana (3:2 SO), but also lost to Traktor in the Urals derby (0:2), and is currently the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. Admiral’s skid caused the team to slip down to seventh place, as the Leonids Tambijevs’ men will want to return to victory to avoid any risk.
Then, Lada hosts Barys. The Kazakhs lost their eight straight matches and achieved only one win in their last seventeen games. A return to victory will be vital for Barys, but the Kazakhs just lost at home to Lada on Sunday (0:5). The Togliatti side, following the win over Barys, lost to Traktor, failing to score (0:5). Lada keeps on being in the hunt for a postseason place, trailing only by two points from the playoff line. Barys is currently the second-to-last team in the East.
Closing the matchday is HC Sochi welcoming Amur. The Black Sea franchise lost its last four matches, while Amur accumulated two straight losses – the Tigers only won once in their last five matches and keep on sitting at the bottom of the East’s standings. HC Sochi will be seeking a return to victory, but is the last team in the Western Conference.
