Dinamo Minsk’s 1,000th game and three other matches today
Today’s KHL schedule features four exciting matchups. Avangard looks to bounce back from a tough loss to Dinamo Minsk as they host Admiral, aiming to snap their four-game skid. Meanwhile, in Astana, Barys will attempt to secure their third consecutive win as they face Amur, who are battling through a challenging 14-game losing streak. In Belarus, Dinamo Minsk celebrates its 1,000th KHL game with a symbolic derby against Moscow Dinamo. Finally, HC Sochi welcomes Sibir, where the visitors hope to break a five-game losing streak on the Black Sea coast.
In Omsk, Admiral will try to return to victory after four straight losses when the Sailors face Avangard for the first time this season. In the first clash, the Hawks got the upper hand after OT, with Reid Boucher tying things up two seconds to the final hooter, but with Vyacheslav Osnovin winning it all for Admiral. Avangard also lost its last game, to Dinamo Minsk (2:5). Both teams will thus try to return to victory today, but only one will prevail. In the standings, Avangard sits on a disappointing tenth place, while Admiral is the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. Recently, Avangard tried another move on the market, trading from SKA for forward Emil Galimov – a veteran of 594 KHL games.
In Kazakhstan, Barys hosts Amur. The hosts are currently on a two-game winning streak, including defeating the Gagarin Cup champion Metallurg on Wednesday (2:1). Amur, instead, traveled to Astana carrying a 14-game losing streak. Interestingly, one of their five victories this season came against Barys on Sept. 9 (5:1). In their most recent outing, the Tigers fell to Spartak on the road (3:7). Over the past stretch, Barys has defeated HC Sochi (6:3) and Metallurg (2:1), giving them the chance to secure three consecutive wins for the first time this season. In the standings, Barys is seven points ahead of Amur and has closed the gap to two points from 10th-placed Avangard, although they've played two more games.
In Belarus, Dinamo Minsk will play its milestone 1,000th KHL game, fittingly in a derby against their namesakes from Moscow. Earlier this season, the visitors defeated the Bisons on home ice (Sept. 15, 6:3). Dmitry Kvartalnov’s team continues to show inconsistent form, alternating between wins and losses. In their last two games, they were shut out by Kunlun Red Star (0:3) but rebounded with a convincing win over Avangard in Omsk (5:2). The Moscow team comes into this matchup riding a four-game winning streak, with their most recent victory over Sibir (4:2). In the standings, Alexei Kudashov’s squad holds a five-point lead over the Minsk side.
In the last game of the matchday, HC Sochi welcomes Sibir. The first encounter between these teams this season took place on Sept. 24, in Novosibirsk, where the hosts claimed a 4:2 victory. Currently, Sibir is on a five-game losing streak, with all their goals in this stretch coming from defensemen. Will their forwards end this scoring drought on the Black Sea coast? HC Sochi, on the other hand, has won three of their last five games but fell at home to Barys in their most recent match (3:6). Sochi, with 22 points, are vying with Kunlun Red Star for the second-to-last spot in the Western Conference. Sibir has one point more, occupying the ninth position in the East. Notably, forward Alexander Khokhlachyov, formerly of Amur, is expected to make his debut for the hosts soon.
