The Kontinental Hockey League and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation have agreed on the participation of a KHL team composed of international players in the Channel One Cup, which will be held from Dec. 12-15 at the SKA Arena in St. Petersburg. This team will compete under the name KHL World Team.
The tournament’s other participants will be Russia 25, Team Belarus, and Team Kazakhstan.
Alexei Morozov, KHL president:
- We are delighted that the upcoming Channel One Cup will feature a team of international players from our League. We are grateful to the Russian Ice Hockey Federation for the invitation and are confident that the participation of such a team will only add excitement and intrigue for fans and the teams themselves. We hope this will become a tradition in the future. In December 2023, we inaugurated the SKA Arena with the Fonbet KHL All-Star Game, and now, the return of major hockey to this arena will happen during the much-loved Channel One Cup.
The League will announce the roster and the coaches of the KHL World Team at a later date.
