Salavat hosting HC Sochi, Neftekhimik welcomes Torpedo

Preview
Only two games are on tap on a light KHL Tuesday.

The Ufa team will start a new five-game home series following a road loss to Traktor on Friday (2:4), which marked Salavat Yulaev’s third loss in the last five matches—not the best moment for the Bashkortostan franchise. Today’s opponent will be HC Sochi. The Black Sea franchise has just won two games in a row—including its first win after 25 straight defeats to CSKA (4:3 SO). Earlier, Sochi shut out Kunlun Red Star (4:0) and has left the bottom of the Western Conference’s standings. Today, Sergei Zubov’s men will be on the lookout for a third straight victory, and that right after SKA recalled back their starting goalie Yegor Zavragin from his loan spell.

In the other game of the matchday, Neftekhimik welcomes Torpedo. After an encouraging start of the season, the Wolves lost four games in a row, including to the Nizhny Novgorod franchise on Thursday (4:5 OT). Despite the losses, Neftekhimik is the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, and a return to victory may mean also a return to the top four. In its hand, Torpedo suffered no regulation losses in the last five matches, and most recently lost to Dynamo Moscow at home on Saturday (2:3 SO). Igor Larionov’s young guns are currently just one point shy of the top four in the Western Conference.
