Moscow Derby and other three exciting games!
Dynamo Moscow will seek revenge against Spartak as the two sides meet again, while another three games are on tap on an exciting KHL Monday.
In the Eastern Conference, table-topping Traktor will face Avangard as the two sides clash for the second time this season. The Hawks are in deep trouble, with only Barys being lower in the standings—a team that has defeated them recently. Avangard lost its previous couple of matches, against Metallurg (2:4) and the Kazakhs (0:1), respectively, and only won five times this year, and they will end a road trip with today’s game. Traktor, instead, is running on a six-game winning streak, with a further three matches to be played on home soil. Earlier this season, Traktor celebrated a 4:2 win over the Hawks, with a double by Alexander Kadeikin.
Another classic matchup is Metallurg hosting Ak Bars—it will be the third encounter between the two Eastern giants this season. Magnitka ends a home series following its win over Avangard, and had four wins in its last five matches that made the team climb up to fifth place in the East. Ak Bars, on its hand, lost three games in a row, against Amur (1:2), Sibir (3:6), and away to Spartak (0:3). The Tatarstan franchise will be looking to bounce back as it travels to Magnitogorsk, possibly building on the two wins the team recorded over Metallurg this season.
The action then moves to the Western Conference for two games. A Moscow derby is always exciting, and today Dynamo hosts Spartak with both sides entering the game after a win. The Red-and-Whites have already defeated Dynamo this season, and are currently sitting in second place in the Conference standings. The Blue-and-Whites have just crossed the playoffs line with their win over Salavat Yulaev, with 30-years-old Evgeny Yaroslavlev recording a win in his debut KHL game. Perhaps the goalie will start today as well, facing Dmitry Nikolayev, who just shut out Ak Bars, posting 36 saves as Spartak recorded a key win. Head coach Alexei Zhamnov shuffled his lines before the game, and the move paid out, with the team returning to victory after two straight losses.
In the Moscow Region, Vityaz hosts Lokomotiv for the last game of the matchday. Both sides enter today’s game on a two-game winning streak, but their placement in the standings is much different. The Railwaymen are leading the Western Conference with 26 points, while Vityaz is now the ninth seed in the West following Dynamo’s win on Saturday. It’s the first meeting between the two sides in the 2024-2025 season.
