Will Metallurg and Torpedo revert the trend?
Metallurg had a rocky start of the season, with just one win in five games. Today, Andrei Razin’s team travel to Cherepovets, where the coach worked successfully for five years before moving to Magnitogorsk. However, the Foxes would have certainly wanted to be on a different position at this point, even after losing the Opening Cup game to Lokomotiv. Most recently, Magnitka suffered from a shutout loss to Ak Bars, with Razin certainly not happy with the lack of scoring. Maybe today he will decide to shuffle his lines and give more space to other players. Metallurg’s top scorer is currently defenseman Robin Press, with only Igor Geraskin—who previously lined up for Severstal—netting more than one goal.
The Steelers are doing much better, with three wins so far, including a victory in their last contest against a difficult opponent: CSKA. Kirill Pilipenko kept his streak alive – he scored in all Severstal games this season so far.
In Sochi, Torpedo will be seeking a return to victory after suffering a loss to Spartak. The Igor Larionov’s young guns lacked a bit of consistency so far, and they will be trying to rebound back to improve their record. The Black Sea franchise, instead, lost its previous couple of matches and will try to score its second win in the season, but it won’t be easy as Torpedo seems to be in good shape despite their recent loss in Moscow. Moreover, for the Nizhny Novgorod side, leading forward Dmitry Kagarlitsky is still seeking an important milestone.
