CSKA seeking to stretch its winning streak!
CSKA had two strong showings recently, with Torpedo getting to Moscow today in an exciting clash. SKA will have his first game of the season when they face Traktor. Six games are on tap on an action-packed KHL Thursday.
The Muscovites have been on fire recently, sending six goals to Admirals on Sunday and adding eight to Lada on Tuesday. Most notably, the line of Vitaly Abramov, Prokhor Poltapov, and Maxim Sorkin was in great shape, with Abramov potting four points in two straight nights. However, Torpedo isn’t going to surrender just yet—the Nizhny Novgorod side didn’t have its best start this season, but they will want to rebound back and a victory in Moscow would be a fantastic way to return back on track.
Another game is scheduled in Moscow, with a Capital Derby between Spartak and Dynamo. The Red-and-Whites have already won a Moscow Derby this season when they defeated CSKA, while Dynamo has only won once in three games. Moreover, it will be the first official game for Spartak’s Andrei Mironov against its former team. The d-man is currently on a three-game scoring streak. Another player in good shape is Mikhail Maltsev, who netted a hat-trick in Spartak’s 5:2 home win over Dinamo Minsk.
In St. Petersburg, SKA will have its home opener for the 2024-2025 season, after winning only one match of three in its first round trip this year. However, SKA can boast seven straight wins over tonight’s opponent, Traktor, with the latest victory for the Chelyabinsk side dated Nov. 18, 2020. Moreover, it will be Evgeny Kuznetsov’s first game against his native club.
Another contending team will be playing in the Moscow Region, with Yaroslavl visiting Kunlun Red Star. The Railwaymen are undefeated so far, with goalie Daniil Isayev posting two straight shutouts and making a statement following last year’s trophy for the league’s top goalie.
The other Western Conference features Severstal hosting Sibir. The Novosibirsk side are the lone league’s team who didn’t gain any point so far in the standings, with three regulation losses and fourteen goals allowed. Sibir will be trying to win its first game tonight, but Severstal had a strong start and has shown to be in excellent shape.
In the remaining contest of the night, Neftekhimik hosts Metallurg. The Gagarin Cup reigning champion will be seeking its revenge after being shut out by the Wolves on Sunday, with former Magnitka’s goalie Artyom Zagidulin posting its first shutout of the season. It will certainly be an interesting rematch.
