Metallurg with a chance to sweep Lokomotiv tonight!

The Steelmen are now at just one win from their third Gagarin Cup triumph – but Lokomotiv won’t hand them the cup just because.

19:00: Lokomotiv vs Metallurg

Series stand
0-3 (1:2, 0:1, 1:2 ОТ)

About the game
Metallurg’s top line stroke again in game three with Dmitry Silantyev converting a rebound from a shot by Denis Zernov to give Magnitka the lead in the middle frame. The Railwaymen, however, did not surrender and tied things up with Georgy Ivanov – this time his goal was ruled good as the contest went to extra time, even if Lokomotiv once again saw a goal disallowed, this time for an offside call. In OT, however, Lokomotiv’s Daniil Isayev had a fatal mistake when a shot by Alexander Polunin bounced off the boards then on his skate as the Magnitka men celebrated their third straight victory. The hosts had the initiative most of the game, but once again failed to beat Ilya Nabokov for most of the game – the rookie goalie had an impressive 32 saves as he’s clearly outplaying his more experienced opponent, Lokomotiv’s Isayev. Today, however, Lokomotiv will have to play their best game to retain a chance and send the series back to the Urals.
Metallurg’s defenseman Robin Press had an assist in each of the first three games of the Gagarin Cup final series.
Metallurg’s forward Dmitry Silantyev and Denis Zernov are on an identical scoring streak, with 2 (1+1) points in their latest couple of matches.
