Another big KHL matchday this Tuesday!
The KHL matchday will start with a bang as Avangard hosts SKA in a promising game. The two sides have already collided this year, with the Hawks claiming a 5:3 win courtesy of a hat-trick by defenseman Damir Sharipzyanov. When top teams from different conferences meet on the ice, it’s always interesting. Especially considering that both Avangard and SKA are currently on a hot situation, not only fighting for leadership in their respective conferences but also for the Continental Cup.
Another similar game will be the showdown between Salavat Yulaev and CSKA. The Ufa team has most recently faced SKA, with the St. Petersburg squad getting the win, while the Muscovites lost their last couple of games. However, the two teams have already faced this season, with Salavat Yulaev getting a 4:3, OT win with Josh Leivo tying things up with less than a minute to go, then netting the game winner in extra time.
In the meantime, another two games will be played in the East, with Barys welcoming Amur and Metallurg facing Admiral. The key match will be the Amur’s one – the Tigers will be on the lookout for points as they are still the ninth seed in the East. Neftekhimik has the upper hand, but Amur still has chances to reach the last postseason spot. Today’s game will be a rematch of Sunday’s game, with the Tigers getting the win with an OT goal by Vladislav Barulin.
The action then moves to the Western Conference. Vityaz today has its last chance not to lose any playoff hope as the Moscow Region side hosts HC Sochi. They can still have a chance to qualify, but for this to happen, Dinamo Minsk should lose to Severstal in regulation, or should both teams lose, Vityaz should get from today’s game the same number of points as the Bisons.
Then, Torpedo will try to return to victory facing Traktor at home. The Nizhny Novgorod side has suffered from five straight losses as the Igor Larionov’ young guns need to find their shape back in the regular season’s last month. In Moscow, Avtomobilist will visit Dynamo. The Motormen had their latest away win over the Blue-and-Whites back in 2017 – it’s time for them to gain another W from the confrontation, but Dynamo will want to get points to catch up with their Conference rivals as the team slipped down to third place.
A showdown between Dinamo Minsk and Severstal will close an exciting KHL Tuesday. The Belarusians have several players sitting on the injury list, but they are showing a good hockey of late. So is Severstal, and this is a classic game where things can easily go either side.
