Fifth Moscow derby between Dynamo and Spartak!

Preview
The Moscow Derby between Dynamo and Spartak is often a blast. The recent history of their rivalry confirms this particularly vividly. Four matches between the two Moscow sides in the 2023-2024 season were filled with fire and drama — three out of four matches ended only after OT, and one of them became one of the highest-scoring games in the history of the KHL (8:7 OT in favor of Spartak). The last match between the teams was also a game to remember: Dynamo took a 2:0 lead thanks to a double by Eric O’Dell, Spartak equalized in the final minutes, scoring twice on the power play, but in OT, the Blue-and-Whites eventually came out on top.

By the way, on Jan 27, the teams will face off again but, in that game, Spartak will be the home team. Moreover, the Red-and-Whites can book a playoff spot should they at least send the game to OT, but it won’t be easy, considering their roster problems of late, with three leading centers sitting on the injury list.

In the second game of the matchday, Severstal faces Avangard. Both teams are in excellent shape, but both teams also suffered losses in their most recent game, against Metallurg and Lokomotiv, respectively. This year, the two sides have already squared off, with Avangard claiming a 5:4, OT win, with Ryan Spooner finding the back of the net for the Hawks. Vladimir Tkachyov’s participation to the game is still under question as the Avangard’s scorer is missing from action since Jan 12.
