Big games in Moscow, St. Petersburg!

Preview
In one of the most intriguing games today, Torpedo will face off against Severstal under the banner of ‘Kozyrev versus Larionov.’ Last season, Andrei Kozyrev worked as part of Igor Larionov’s coaching staff at Torpedo, overseeing the team’s attack. Some skeptics speculated that without Kozyrev, Torpedo might lose its former spark, but the reality turned out to be far more intriguing.

The Nizhny Novgorod side continues to play brilliantly under Larionov’s guidance, while Severstal, now led by Kozyrev, has become one of the most intriguing teams in the league at the start of the season – just consider their recent 10:1 win over Sochi. Tonight, these two captivating teams will clash in Cherepovets, marking the first coaching duel between Kozyrev and Larionov this season.

The KHL matchday will however start in Novosibirsk, with the second showdown of the season between Sibir and Traktor. The first time, Vladimir Tkachyov netted the game-winner in OT for Chelyabinsk, so let’s see if today the David Nemirovsky’s men will manage to get their revenge.

The Eastern Conference will host another three games, with Avangard facing Metallurg, Barys welcoming Dynamo Moscow, and Neftekhimik entertaining Vityaz. The Hawks facing Magnitka is always a classic matchup and a full crowd is expected in Omsk, where the home team will try to please the attendance with a win following two straight losses. In Nizhnekamsk, goalie Dmitry Nikolayev may have his debut this season – the netminder has just been traded to Neftekhimik by SKA in exchange for Andrei Chivilyov and prospect Amir Nugmanov. Dynamo Moscow in its trip to Astana may again count on Eric O’Dell, back from his two-game ban.

In the West, most of the focus will be in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In the Russian capital, a Moscow derby between Spartak and CSKA will take place – the Blue-and-Reds have won the first edition. In St. Petersburg, SKA will host Lokomotiv trying to record a victory after the loss in the first showdown against the Railwaymen.

A clash between Kunlun Red Star and Dinamo Minsk completes a tense KHL matchday with plenty of exciting games in both conferences.
