Two games today on a light KHL Sunday!

Preview
Two Eastern giants will hit the ice today, with Avangard traveling to the Western Conference, and Ak Bars entertaining Amur on home ice.

Oddly enough, only one team of the four that will play today have not lost their last game – Amur. The Khabarovsk side returned to victory on Friday with Janis Kalnins posting his first shutout of the season when the Tigers hunted the Dragons down with a 2:0 victory. While Kunlun Red Star only had one loss, Ak Bars and Avangard are suffering more, with two and four straight losses, respectively. Today’s matchday may be a good moment to halt their skid, and tradition is on Ak Bars’ side, with Amur failing to achieve a victory in Kazan for almost ten years following a 2:1 road win on Nov 26, 2013.

The Hawks are instead on a four-game losing streak, having lost all their road games in the series. Avangard’s most recent victory is dated Sep 16 – two weeks ago – when they had a 5:1 win over Neftekhimik with a double by Reid Boucher. Taking the best off the Dragons won’t be an easy feat, and Kunlun Red Star has just signed Teemu Pulkkinen, most recently in the KHL with Traktor, where he had 15 goals and 27 points.
