First Siberian derby in Sibir’s new home!

Preview
And here comes the second Siberian derby of the season. Sibir finally welcomes their sworn friends from Omsk to its new arena. It must be acknowledged that the Novosibirsk side had a somewhat challenging start to the season, not fully adapting yet to David Nemirovsky’s system. In the first game, the Hawks prevailed with a goal by Igor Geraskin with two minutes to the final hooter. Will Sibir take its revenge in front of a packed crowd?

The KHL matchday starts early in the Far East, with both Amur and Admiral hitting the ice on home soil. The Khabarovsk side will face table-topping Dynamo Moscow, while the Sailors welcome Kunlun Red Star. Both teams will be eager to return to victory, but their tests won’t be easy. The Muscovites are riding high on a five-game winning streak, while the Dragons have just achieved a nice win in Khabarovsk. However, the most recent Kunlun’s victory in Vladivostok is dated back to 2018.

Other two teams with interesting streaks are Lada and HC Sochi. The Togliatti franchise won its previous couple of matches, but if Kunlun isn’t winning in Vladivostok for a while, Lada’s most recent home win over CSKA was 14 years ago, in March 2009. In the elimination stage, Evgeny Bodrov netted the game-winner with fewer than a minute to go, beating Jussi Markkanen. Vasily Koshechkin stood between the piping for Togliatti.

HC Sochi, on its end, won its previous four matches and is called to a difficult test tonight as Traktor comes to city. Once again, history kicks in, with the most recent Sochi home win over Chelyabinsk dated Nov 17, 2016, with Andrei Kostitsyn tallying the game-winner.

The last game of the matchday sees Barys travelling to Moscow to face Spartak. Barys’ captain Roman Starchenko, who lined up for the Red-and-Whites last year, has two milestones in front of him, and he will want to push his team to achieve a much-needed away victory. The Kazakhs, moreover, are on a two-win run.
