Conference semis to start for the remaining four teams!
It’s day two for the Conference semis, with the remaining four teams hitting the ice for game one. First, Avangard faces Metallurg for last year’s revenge. Again in the second round, despite Avangard’s 2-0 series lead, Metallurg won three straight games to make a 3-2 series. Avangard evened things up, but then lost the seventh game and Metallurg advanced to the next round. In the end, they lost to CSKA in the Gagarin Cup finals.
CSKA and Lokomotiv also have a nice history of postseason showdowns, with the Muscovites taking two series against the Motormen’s two. However, their last encounter was much different, with CSKA taking a first-round series with a sound 4-0 final score en route to their Gagarin Cup win.
