In the KHL 2021-2022 season, the Imports project gives foreign hockey players the opportunity to try on unexpected characters and rethink stereotypes associated with Russian history and culture. This clip with CSKA’s newly signed defenseman Darren Dietz was shot when he was still representing Barys Nur-Sultan.

Darren Dietz appeared in the image of a 19th-century Russian nobleman: in a starched coat, with his own estate, a pair of Russian greyhounds and a book of classics with a cup of tea.

At that time in Moscow, in contrast to St. Petersburg, it became fashionable to have tea parties in a noble environment – apparently, this detail of the image propelled Dietz’s trade to CSKA.
