Lilja delivers in his second year in Nur-Sultan, while Manninen leads Salavat Yulaev to his first Green Derby victory of the season. KHL.ru presents the best players from each country.

Sweden

Jakob Lilja

F, Barys, 4 G, 5 (5+0) points, +4

After a rocky start, Barys is back to the playoff places as it’s currently the eighth seed of the Eastern Conference. The Swedish forward had a huge contribution to Barys’ success last week, with two consecutive doubles, and two straight game-winning goals in home triumphs against HC Sochi and Kunlun Red Star. Lilja also scored a goal when Barys achieved a victory in Kazan on Dec 6. The Kazakhs won four straight games before losing to Neftekhimik on Sunday, but for now they are on the right side of the playoff line. For his efforts, Lilja was awarded forward of the week honors.

Finland

Sakari Manninen

F, Salavat Yulaev, 3 G, 5 (4+1) points, +3

Salavat Yulaev also had an excellent week, and returned to the East’s third place after defeating Ak Bars for the first time this season. One of the best players for Ufa in the green derby was Sakari Manninen. The Finnish forward potted a double against Ak Bars, opening the score after less than ten minutes in the first stanza, then sealing the deal late in the third period with Kazan playing with an empty net. It was Manninen’s 19th of the season — as much as he scored last year, which was his most productive campaign for the Finnish forward. Manninen also scored in Salavat Yulaev’s 5:0 thumping of HC Sochi on Tuesday, and in Ufa’s 4:2 victory over Admiral the day before. Manninen and his Finnish fellow countrymen Teemu Hartikainen and Markus Granlund are going to represent the Leijonat at the upcoming Channel One Cup in Moscow.

USA

Kenny Agostino

F, Torpedo, 3 G, 5 (2+3) points, +4

Much like Barys, Torpedo is also now back on track and returned to the playoff places after surpassing Dinamo Minsk in the Western Conference’s standings. The Nizhny Novgorod side had excellent goaltending from Pyotr Kochetkov, with American forward Kenny Agostino leading Torpedo’s attack. He started the week with a three-point performance in Torpedo’s unexpected win in Moscow over CSKA: Agostino scored two even-strength goals as the Nizhny Novgorod franchise moved on with a win in the Russian capital — he scored the first and last goals of the game and assisted Damir Zhafyarov’s game-winner. On Dec 10, Torpedo had a do-or-die game against Dinamo Minsk, and they came out with a 2:1 victory, with Agostino assisting Andy Miele’s tally in the second period — the first of the night. The American forward completed his light-out week with a further helper in Torpedo’s 1:3 victory in Riga. The Nizhny Novgorod side is now primed for another playoff qualification, but hardly Dinamo Minsk will surrender. Moreover, HC Sochi has been in top shape this December, and while seven points behind, the Black Sea franchise can’t be counted out just yet.

Canada

Taylor Beck

F, Dinamo Minsk, 3 G, 4 (1+3) points, +2

Dinamo Minsk has been surpassed by Torpedo after Nizhny Novgorod’s win on Friday — when Beck was left out the score sheet. However, the Belarussians returned to victory on Sunday defeating Jokerit on home soil. In that game, Beck led Dinamo Minsk with a three-point performance — opening the score in the first period and posting another two assists, even if Malte Stromwall stole the scene netting a hat-trick. Earlier in the week, Beck posted a helper in Dinamo Minsk’s losing effort against Vityaz. To return on the right side of the playoff line, the Minsk side will need Beck’s points and plays.

Czech Republic

Lukas Sedlak

F, Traktor, 3 G, 3 (0+3) points, +1

In his third season in Chelyabinsk, Sedlak’s role within Traktor is still increasing, and he’s having his best season in the league so far. Last week, the Czech productive forward helped the Chelyabinsk side having two victories in three games, posting helpers in both Traktor’s wins — against Kunlun Red Star and Sibir. In Novosibirsk, Sedlak had a couple of assists and logged more than twenty minutes of time on ice. He currently leads Traktor’s forward in scoring, time on ice, assists (tied with his fellow Czech countryman Tomas Hyka), faceoff percentage, and hits. Traktor is currently running in the East’s second place, and Sedlak’s points will be key to maintain such a high seed in the regular season’s second part.
