Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk 2 Ak Bars Kazan 5 SO (1-1, 0-2, 1-1, 0-1)
The home team was playing its second warm-up game and handed a debut to Finnish goalie Frans Tuohimaa. There were plenty of new faces on the opposition roster, with Nikolai Kovalenko, Par Lindholm, Kirill Adamchuk, Rinat Valiyev, Kirill Panyukov and Igor Bobkov all featuring for the first time. There was also room for a handful of youngsters to get a look on the fourth lines of the respective teams.
A bright start from the home team forced an early error from Bobkov and the Ak Bars goalie took a minor penalty for delaying the game. That led to Marat Khairullin opening the scoring with a power play goal. Neftekhimik then killed a penalty, only to be hit with a shorthanded goal from Mark Yanchevsky.
The visitor took control in the second period with two goals in 18 seconds. First, Dmitry Voronkov put Ak Bars in front with a solo rush then Artyom Galimov extended the lead. Kovalenko was among the assists on both plays. Early in the third, Lindholm made it 4-1 on the power play, redirecting Kirill Petrov’s shot past Tuohimaa. The host managed to get another power play goal midway through the final frame thanks to Evgeny Mityakin but could not save the game. After the 60 minutes, the teams had a shoot-out, with Kovalenko giving Ak Bars the edge once again.
