Sergei Mozyakin announced his retirement from playing hockey.

In 13 KHL seasons, Mozyakin played 842 games and scored 928 (419+509) point. Sergei has more points, goals and assists than anyone else in the league’s history.

He won the Gagarin Cup twice with Metallurg in 2014 and 2016.

Mozyakin was the top scorer in the regular season six times. In four seasons he was the KHL’s leading goalscorer and he won four ‘Golden Stick’ awards for the regular season MVP as well as two playoff MVP awards. Sergei also appeared in 11 All-Star Games.

Sergei Mozyakin: I’ve decided to end my playing career. I’d like to thank everyone who supported me over all these years — all the coaches who worked with me, from my childhood to the present day; the directors of all the clubs where I played, and especially Viktor Rashnikov, the chairman of MMK. And, of course, I’d specially like to thank the fans who always helped me throughout my career.

Alexei Morozov, KHL president: Sergei Mozyakin is a legend, a brilliant and talented player who established himself as a real poster boy for the league since its foundation. Sergei rewrote many records in Russian hockey and became one of Europe’s top players in recent decades. Sergei’s story proves that players can build their careers at home, in their own country, and still enjoy the status of a true legend of world hockey. His contribution to the development and popularity of our game was invaluable and we are sorry that he has chosen to end his career. It was always a fun challenge to play against him on the ice, and playing on his team was always a joy. I’m happy that we were able to enjoy some important wins together for Team Russia. Personally, I’d like to wish Sergei success in all his new endeavors.
