Since the end of November, Jokerit has played its home games behind closed doors in Helsinki. Due to the on-going pandemic and the restrictions about crossing the Finnish border, the club started talking to the league about how to stage the playoff games while minimizing any problems for visiting teams on arrival in Finland. As a result, it was decided that Jokerit would play its home games in the 2020-2021 playoffs at the arena of its opponent in that round.
Alexei Morozov, KHL President:
The playoffs are a challenge not just for the players, but also for the staff at each arena. At any moment, a venue can be called back into action to stage a fifth, sixth or seventh game in a series at short notice. During the current pandemic, with all its restrictions, that challenge is twice as great.
We are grateful to Jokerit for taking this difficult decision and we are sure that the team will feel at home in Russia and play its best hockey. We hope that next season Jokerit will be back in front of full houses at the Hartwall Arena.
The KHL playoffs start on March 2. Jokerit’s opponent in the first round will be confirmed in the coming days.
