The two Eastern Conference franchises were in fantastic shape last week, winning three games in a row. KHL.ru presents last week’s top imports from each country.

Canada/Kazakhstan

Darren Dietz

D, Barys, 3 G, 5 (3+2) points, +1

The Canada native defenseman had another great week, being above the average even for his exceptional standards. Dietz started the week with a superb performance against Salavat Yulaev in Ufa. First, he tied the game at two in the third period. Then, in OT, contributed to Roman Starchenko’s deciding goal. Two days later, Barys visited Spartak Moscow and got away with a 3-2 OT victory, with Dietz tallying in the extra time for the Kazakh franchise. On Oct. 16, Barys had its third win of the week, and Dietz served a perfect assist for Starchenko’s game-winner in OT — the game’s lone goal. Barys is currently the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, but considering its shape and that the Kazakh side played at least five games less than other teams, it looks like they are destined to a much higher rank in the standings later.

Sweden

Lawrence Pilut

D, Traktor, 3 G, 2 (0+2) points, +3

Chelyabinsk had an excellent week, with three straight wins, including an away victory over Ak Bars Kazan. Pilut was silent on the scoresheet in the first two games but had a pair of assists on Saturday when Traktor defeated Neftekhimik with a 6-3 score. In his first season in the league, the Swedish blueliner is yet to open his goals account with Traktor, but he has amassed eight helpers so far, an excellent result for a newcomer. Thanks to his efforts, Pilut was named Best defenseman for the seventh week. Traktor is currently the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference, and they are a team on the rise.

Czech Republic

Tomas Hyka

F, Traktor, 3 G, 3 (2+1) points, +1

As said, Traktor was in fantastic shape last week, and if Pilut was excellent on the blue line, Tomas Hyka was nothing short of great in the offensive zone. The Czech forward didn’t appear on the scoresheet in the 3-2, OT win over Ak Bars but scored his third goal of the season, tallying the game-winner in Traktor’s 4-0 win in Cherepovets. Three days later, on Saturday, Hyka scored the second game-winner in a row when Chelyabinsk got rid of Neftekhimik with a 6-3 score. The 27-years-old forward also had an assist in the second period, when Lukas Sedlak found the back of the net on a powerplay.

Finland

Joni Ortio

G, Barys, 3 G, 3 W, 1 shutout, 94.74, 1.32 GAA

If Barys had such a strong week, it was also thanks to Ortio’s strong goaltending. The Finnish netminder had three consecutive wins with Barys, including shutting out Ak Bars in Kazan on Friday. Earlier last week, Ortio helped the Kazakh franchise defeating Salavat Yulaev and Spartak — all away and in OT. Ortio, in his second year in the league, was awarded Best goalie honors. The Kazakh franchise is probably the side in the best shape in the East, with Traktor Chelyabinsk.

USA/Belarus

Nick Bailen

D, Traktor, 3 G, 3 (0+3) points, +2

Besides three helpers, Bailen also had the winning attempt when Traktor defeated Ak Bars in SO at the Kazan’s Tatneft Arena. The US native also had a pair of helpers in Traktor’s 4-0 win over Severstal and also joined Hyka and Sedlak in the scoresheet for Chelyabinsk’s 6-3 victory against Neftekhimik. Bailen, 30, is currently the league’s fifth scorer among defensemen, with 11 (4+7) points in 17 games.
